Preface
Most of these papers were given at the meeting 'Historische Linguistik und Grammatik-theorien II' which was held on December 12 and 13, 1997, at the Zentrum für Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft, Berlin. It was the annual meeting of the Project 'Diachronische Adäquatheitstheorien an Grammatiktheorien' which has existed since 1996 under the leadership of Wolfgang Ullrich Wurzel of the Zentrum für Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft and Karin Donhauser of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The next meeting will be on December 3 and 4, 1998. Its title will be 'Historische Linguistik und Grammatiktheorien III: Komplexe Wörter und einfache Phrasen', so the talks will be about derivational morphology and syntax.
